Acne Naturally

Acne

A daily skin care regime consisting of cleansing, toning and moisturising is a vital part of treating acne naturally.  Unfortunately there is no guaranteed cure for acne but there are numerous therapies to manage it effectively. Acne develops from the build-up of oil (sebum) in the pores and when pores are blocked, the sebum builds up clogging the opening which can result in acne varying from mild to severe ones.  It is always advisable to see a doctor or visit the dermatologist in cases of painful and severe acne problems but if you have mild acne, try some home care first.

Firstly, because most commercial soaps will dry out the skin, it is best not to use soap products on the face and on areas that are acne prone but use a milk cleanser instead. Dry skin will cause the stimulation of sebaceous glands to produce more sebum and all you will achieve is to promote oily skin. In addition to the daily skin care regime, use a facial clay mask starting with 2 – 3 times per week and gradually reduce to once a week to draw out dirt and impurities from the skin. This will help to keep the skin relatively clear from blockages. Once the skin has cleared up, add an exfoliant to the weekly beauty regime to remove dead skin and to stimulate new cell growth. Do remember not to exfoliate on active acneic skin.

In mild to moderate cases of acne, natural products may alleviate the symptoms and over time improve on damaged skin caused by acne. Take a look at what some of these herbs and fruits can do for your skin.

Eucalyptus Oil + Echinacea purpurea extract

Echinacea is a wonder herb that is great for almost any skin condition. Mixed together with Eucalyptus Oil (50-50), its strong disinfectant properties work to kill bacteria on the acne without drying the skin out.

Almond Oil

Have an almond oil facial by cleansing the face thoroughly, then gently pat sweet almond oil (and it even works for blackheads) over the area. Follow this up with a facial clay mask and then tone and moisturiser. If you are an outdoor type of person, remember to sunscreen.

Honey

Honey is probably nature’s most versatile beauty and health produce. It’s a great blackhead cleanser and because it nourishes and heals skin, it works great to soothe acneic skin and to control angry skin flare-ups.

Lemon or Lime

Prevention is better than cure. Lemon juice is an ideal blackhead preventer with antiseptic properties. It cleanses and restores acidity to skin. Mix equal parts of rose water or elderflower water with lemon juice and apply with a facial cotton pad.

Alternatively, make a paste to apply on and around the acne with cinnamon powder and lemon juice in equal parts.

Once the acne has cleared up, maintain a simple daily skin care regime to cleanse, tone and moisturise together with any of the above natural remedies once in a while. Top that off with a visit once a month to the salon for a microdermabrasion treatment to remove dead skin cells and to stimulate collagen production and cell growth to maintain beautiful and healthy skin.
