Procedure & Application
A technician will consult with you in terms of the look you want to achieve. Will it be a natural or a cosmetic look? There are two things to consider here-shape (natural or cosmetic) and colour (natural flesh tone or fire engine red !). Some people come in with a very definite idea of what they would like to have done. Other people are not so sure. With the eyebrows and the eyeliner (even lips) I would recommend prospective applicants to put their make-up on as they would normally do so at home. Then, let us follow the shape and colour you have created. This is a more balanced approach and will enable you to discuss with those important people at home what sort of look best accentuates your features.
Once the shape and colour is decided the outline of what you would like is drawn on the face using non-permanent make-up. Remember to also discuss the technique the technician will use. For example, for the eyes one can have a line (for eyeliner) or a dotting method where small dots are placed in between the lashes to give them a fuller thicker look. In summary thus far we have decided shape, colour and technique to be used in order to gain the desired effect.
A topical anesthetic is then applied to the area and it remains for 30 to 45 minutes. With the eyeliner and eyebrow clients really only feel minimal discomfort when the technique is being performed. The lips are a little more painful. Reputable salons like ours have medical practitioners on site who can administer anesthesia if required (there is a further cost however). The treatment is then performed. This takes around 45 minutes to an hour. We recommend clients not to drive home directly after the procedure. All of our clients do so without incident, but customer safety is of paramount concern so we will let you decide what to do here.
Reputable salons will recognise that a follow up visit will be required in around 2 to 4 weeks time. This is merely to make further contact with the client to make sure that they have been pleased with the procedure. Most clients do not need a follow up visit (if you do it is all included in the initial price). The colour will last for around 3 to 6 years and will fade naturally with a consistent colour remaining for the duration.
We recommend clients try and take the next day off work. Eyeliner and eyebrows will usually be fine within 24 hours. The eyes will feel sandy and gritty post treatment. The lips and lipline will usually take 48-72 hours to return to normal. Comprehensive home care instructions are given and reputable salons will only be a phone call away
