Remember the “slip, slop, slap” song from when you were little? Sadly, just like Father Christmas and his elves, the message can get lost as we get older and life’s obligations get in the way. However we mustn’t forget that in Australia, whether you have pale skin or dark skin, our harsh sun spares no one. Protection this summer is essential if you want to reduce your risk of skin cancer and other horrible diseases.
But is it possible to be both sun-safe and stylish on the beach? Well, with some of the hot trends out this season, there is no excuse! Here’s a fun take on the Cancer Council’s “slip, slop, slap” golden oldie to help you do just that:
SLIP on a sexy kaftan. The focus this season are electric neons and bold prints. An eye-catching kaftan is at the top of every fashionista’s wish list.
SLOP on some broad spectrum SPF30+ sunscreen. A fab range of non-oily sunscreens and tinted moisturisers with UVA and UVB protection means that embarrassing shine is a thing of the past.
SLAP on a 50’s inspired, oversized broad-brimmed hat a la Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. A must have for the glamour queen in us all.
SEEK shade and go shopping, grab some lunch or get your nails done. Avoid the sun’s harmful rays between 11am and 3pm – say no to leathery, saggy skin and hello to a younger looking you.
SLIDE on a pair of sunnies – oversized, aviators, cat-eyed and bright colours are so hot right now, the perfect accessory to complete any outfit.
