What happens during a Laser Hair Removal treatment?

The idea of a hair-free life and stress-free mornings has captivated you.

Even the cost of Laser hair removal won’t stop you now!

There may be a few open questions playing on your mind. What exactly happens during a Laser hair removal treatment? We will attempt to break it up, step-by-step for you.

Before the procedure:

You must ensure that you are not sunburned or tanned before your Laser hair removal appointment. Please do not wax or epilate before or after your treatment as Laser targets the hair follicle which has to be present, otherwise the treatment will not work.

Before your Laser hair treatment can start, your specialist will adjust the hair removal Laser handpiece to suit your skin type and hair colour. You will also be handed Laser goggles in order to protect your eyes from the concentrated beam of the Laser device.

Your specialist may also use a topical anaesthetic on your treatment area to reduce irritation and/or discomfort during the procedure.

In addition, they will lightly press the hand operated Laser handpiece onto your treatment area and may apply a cooling gel to protect your skin from soreness and swelling.

The Laser beam will be absorbed by the hair follicles. The heat emitted from the Laser will damage the hair follicle and thus inhibit further hair growth.

The feeling of the treatment has been likened to being lightly snapped by a rubber band.

Laser hair removal is a permanent option and results are well worth the mild discomfort.

Small areas such as the upper lip are perfect for Laser and only take a few minutes whereas leg hair removal will take longer.

After the procedure:

There may be redness or swelling after the procedure which usually only lasts for a couple of hours.

You may wish to apply an ice pack to the treated area.

After the treatment, you must avoid sun exposure. You must wear sunscreen whenever exposed to sunlight in any event.

You may also experience hair fallout from the treated area within the days and weeks after your procedure. This is perfectly normal. Please do not attempt to pull out the hair follicles. Simply let them fall out on their own for optimal results.

Laser hair removal is proven to be effective, safe and fast. So what are you waiting for? Contact your local salon today!
