Wrinkled in Your Sleep

What a bummer! No one would have thought that sleep might be causing those fine lines to develop around the face.

The good news is that there are a number of products and treatments out there that can help minimise these wrinkles. The myriad of beauty products and treatments work towards replacing and encouraging collagen production to fight off the signs of ageing. Collagen can iron out more than just wrinkles.

It is the protein that is mainly responsible for the skin’s elasticity. As we age, we start losing the ability to produce collagen as fast as we use it. By 40, our collagen levels will be almost a third lower than they were 15 years earlier. So it’s not surprising that we tend to see wrinkles and bags under our eyes by the time we hit the big four-O.

Apart from appeasing our vanity and aesthetics, collagen also has another important function. In a controlled group of 2,000 people with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis, researchers found that collagen reduced pain and increased mobility in more than 75 percent of the test subjects. Of course this is not as simple as just putting on a beauty cream on our knees, but it doesn’t detract from the fact that the more collagen we have, the less issues we will have with arthritic pains. After 3 months, the test subjects were able to reduce their usual pain-relieving medication significantly. Collagen can also be used to speed recovery from injuries and restore joint health.

All in all, collagen is a nifty little protein and is far more beneficial than just soothing out a few facial lines.
