What are strawberry legs?
Strawberry legs are completely normal and have been affectionately given the name due to the appearance on skin looking like strawberry seeds. The dots are usually red or dark in nature and are in placement of hair follicles.
Strawberry legs may have been caused for a number of reasons, often from shaving, hyperpigmentation or folliculitis. The appearance of these strawberry-like dots appears at the site of a hair follicle. They are commonly seen after shaving, but are also as a result of enlarged, and clogged pores.
How to Treat Strawberry Legs?
Strawberry legs are a completely normal, and common symptom of hair removal. However, we have some great tips to help improve and treat those nasty little dots:
- Regular exfoliation
For many cases of strawberry legs, treatment can be as easy as regularly exfoliating your legs. These dots may be the appearance of clogged or blocked pores. With regular gentle exfoliation, it encourages pores to be cleaned and cleared out. Our favourite exfoliator is Prep Exfoliating Body Scrub & Mask. Our exfoliator has been specifically formulated to simultaneously exfoliate, detoxify and hydrate skin. Prep is packed with amazing ingredients such as kaolin & bentonite clays, shea butter & jojoba oil. - Put down the shaver!
Shaving can cause these dots, so we love to wax instead! Waxing has so many great benefits, and regular exfoliation is one of them. Not to mention with regular waxing you will have smooth skin for longer. You can book in every 4-6 weeks depending on hair growth! - Moisturise your skin regularly to create a smooth and silky barrier on your skin: We recommend our wonderful Nourish Body Moisturiser from our very own Essential Beauty Skin range! Nourish is formulated with a fantastic array of ingredients to minimise hair growth and to prevent snapped hairs.
- Consider chemical exfoliators or acne treatments
Active ingredients on the skin like glycolic or salicylic can help to clean out pores and leave skin feeling and looking fresh.
To stop strawberry legs from appearing again, we recommend switching your hair removal method to waxing. Waxing helps as it opens the pores and removes the hair from the root. What a win!
