What are the most popular piercings this year?

Piercing Updated October 26, 2020
2020 Edition

Fashions come and go, and so do piercing trends. If you’re an 80s or 90s baby you’d remember the belly piercing obsession of the early 2000s – thanks to Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and Beyonce!

With a major resurgence of other 90s and early 2000s (y2k) iconic fashion trends like headbands, clips, low rise jeans, scrunchies and double denim, it’s clear that belly piercings are not to be forgotten any time soon!

So, what are the most popular piercing trends for 2020 – 2021?

  1. Curated ear piercings – Daith, lobes, rook, conch, helix, tragus β€” we’ve come to know and love the many parts of your ear you can adorn with multiple piercings adorned with rings, studs, flat back labret bars in metals, colours and custom designs to suit your desired look!
  2. Stacked piercings – Stacked piercings can be a fun and unique way to breathe life into existing lobe piercings by adding another piercing vertically on top or underneath. Alternately, you can get two or three new piercings placed vertically on your lobe, or in a triangle or zigzag pattern. You can also have these linear aligned piercings on the nose, tragus, helix, conch and other parts of the ear.
  3. Double nipple piercings – Nipple piercings, especially double nipples have been crazily popular already this year – especially following Coronavirus salon closures. With everything going on in the world, a lot of people are saying β€˜you only live once’ if you’ve always wanted a piercing done – Why not? Go for it!
  4. Piercing with rings – at Essential Beauty we can pierce your lobes, helix, belly or nose with a ring from the start. If you are concerned about your jewellery catching on clothing, hair or towels, your best option is a hinged ring as they are more secure and have no external clasps for fabrics and hair to catch on to – they also look really cute!
