Why are your eyebrows so uneven? Eyebrow shaping guide

Waxing Updated October 26, 2020

When you have shapely, well-groomed brows that suit your face, your features appear balanced and your eyes pop!

Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard to get both of your eyebrows to look the same? Here is the news, faces are not symmetrical.

For example, your bone structure may stick out a little more on one side of your forehead which means one eyebrow may be rounder and the other eyebrow will sit flatter and appear squarer.

The bone structure near the temples, can also protrude a little more on one side.

This is why when you look at your eyebrows front on, it may appear that the tail of one eyebrow is too short.  It’s not short. It is simply that you cannot see the whole eyebrow, from a front view, because the temple bone sticks out a little more.

The muscle tone in your face can change your eyebrow shape as well. The muscle tone is stronger on one side which means one of your eyebrows will sit higher than the other. By the way, this is usually everyone’s favourite eyebrow.

If you sleep on one side of your face, this can affect the eyebrows as well. Sleeping on one side, means some of the eyebrow hairs can be rubbed off or wrinkles can appear in and around the shape of your eyebrows which will affect the way the eyebrow sits.

To add to your eyebrow symmetry troubles, the way the hair grows on each eyebrow can be different as well. One eyebrow can have hair that grows straight up towards your hair line and the other can have hair that sits straight along the brow bone or points down towards your eyes.

At Essential Beauty we help you create symmetry and achieve brows that suit your face with eyebrow waxing. Essential Beauty’s unique service includes an eyebrow zone consultation where your beauty therapist will look at the Head of the Brow, Outer Arch, Inner Arch and Tail, we call this our 4 Zone Brow Consultation, which is a form of brow mapping. They will check the symmetry of all 4 zones and make recommendations to create the perfect brows for your bone structure, muscle tone and personal preference.

If you have sensitive skin that is prone to redness, or if you will be shopping for the rest of the day, ask your beauty therapist for Sensitive Hot Wax. You can book this service online via the Essential Beauty Website or mobile app. Sensitive Hot Wax is great for facial waxing as the unique formula can grip the small hairs on the face and also helps to exfoliate dead skin cells for better makeup application, better absorption of skincare into deeper layers of the skin and is more much more gentle than other hair removal methods.

To achieve your best shape, your beauty therapist will work with you to determine where you need to grow more hair (or remove hair) to define your shape, and where to fill using a brow pencil or powder. Brow tinting can also help achieve better brow definition and fullness. Your brow tint will attach to the fine vellus hairs and lighter hairs in the brow creating full looking, bold brows! There are many tricks to create the illusion of perfectly shaped, symmetrical brows. Book your brow wax and tint online today or download the Essential Beauty Australia App.
