Semi-Permanent Makeup

Wake up with makeup! Are you looking for a convenient, permanent way to achieve a fresh new look?

Wake up with eyeliner, full looking lashes, and filled in, defined brows! Look younger and spend less time getting ready in the morning with semi-permanent makeup. This service is available at selected Essential Beauty salons, where our Beauty Therapists have received specific theoretical and practical training in semi-permanent makeup who are regularly assessed, to make sure they continue to meet our company’s high standards.

What is semi-permanent makeup?

Semi-permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing that allows you to have long lasting enhanced eyebrows and eyeliner. A tapping method is used to insert pigment into the upper layers of skin either on the brow or on the lash line, using hand-held microneedle tool. We use safe, non-reactive, hypoallergenic pigments available in a variety of colours which can be mixed to create your very own custom shade. Semi-permanent makeup can last anywhere from 2 – 6 years depending on a number of factors, and will fade gradually into lighter shades of the original colour over time.

Reasons to get semi-permanent makeup:
  • Long lasting pencilled in brows or fuller natural looking hairstroke brows.
  • Define your eyebrow shape by filling in sparse hairs that have been over-plucked or become thinner due to ageing.
  • Create the illusion of fuller, voluminous eyelashes.
  • Create the appearance of having larger or smaller eyes.
  • If you want more time in the morning or have trouble applying makeup.
  • Look your best even when swimming or at the gym!

Eyebrow semi-permanent makeup

Create a more defined eyebrow shape, or replace hair or colour loss in your eyebrows due mostly due to ageing, damage from over plucking and other medical conditions causing hair loss such as alopecia or cancer patients. Using the tapping method, colour is layered to produce a natural looking brow. Hair strokes can be added for a natural looking brow or a powder technique can be used for a more solid, cosmetic look.

Your Beauty Therapist will work with you to achieve your eyebrow goals by choosing the correct colours to match your hair and skin tone, and will help fill in the right areas to achieve your desired shape.

Your eyebrows will look dark and solid immediately after the procedure, but will heal soft and natural looking with some areas lighter and some darker creating a very natural look that can be up to 25% – 45% lighter after healing.

Please note that you will require a touch up appointment approximately 4 – 6 weeks after the initial procedure. Your Beauty Therapist will assess your brows and correct any areas with additional pigment and add extra hair strokes. This second session is used to perfect the brows and add density. We offer one touch up appointment at no additional cost. Some client’s skin may have a harder time retaining pigment and may require additional sessions.

Eyeliner and eyelash semi-permanent makeup

Pigment is dotted in between the lashes for a natural look that can create the illusion of fuller and voluminous lashes, or pigment can be added slightly above lashes for a more dramatic eyeliner look that won’t wash away!

Different techniques can be used to achieve the desired look that you’re after. You can use semi-permanent makeup to accentuate your eyes and eyelashes to provide fullness and depth, correct the appearance of uneven eyes, make your eyes appear smaller or make your eyes appear bigger.

Semi-permanent makeup is also a great option if you have allergies, or if cosmetics irritate your eyes – this is a common problem for people who wear contact lenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Read More FAQs
How long does semi-permanent makeup last?

Semi-permanent makeup can last anywhere from 2 – 6 years, and will gradually fade into lighter shades of the original colour over time. This can depend on many factors including how you are looking after your semi-permanent makeup, your skin’s ability to retain pigment, the colour used, and whether you have had any touch up appointments.

Will hair still grow when you have semi-permanent makeup eyebrows?

An eyebrow tattoo will not stop hair from continuing to grow, instead it will provide shape and colour on the skin of the brows. If you have eyebrow hair present prior to your first appointment, the hair will continue to grow.

Is there any downtime after semi-permanent makeup?

Most people don’t need to take time off of work. There is usually no swelling with the eyebrow treatments but this can vary from person to person. Occasionally, eyelash treatments can swell, but this usually subsides within 24 hours. We suggest that if you want one of these treatments, book for a Friday so you have the weekend to recover.
